'Straight To You' was a song by Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, released on the 'Henry's Dream' album way back in 1992. It also happens to be my Mum's favourite song, and yesterday was her birthday - so this was her present.
Over the past couple of days Sam La Marca and I worked on recording our own cover of the song, as well as making this little video clip. I'm playing my old green ukelele and singing the vocals, and Sam's playing the guitar. He also happens to be an awesome drummer, but it was hard to record a good sound in a cluttered little room under his house, so we used the drum machine on his computer instead, and he played his tiny keyboard-effects thingy to record the marimba-sounding part (It probably has a proper name - I'll find out what that is later and update this).
The video was very loosely inspired by Nick Cave's video for the song - we swapped the red curtains for Sam's red bed sheets, and instead of spending ages filming ourselves as the musicians (it was a boiling day and we were kinda drained) we drew the lyrics as we listened back to our recording of the song. Incense is always a good idea, and his golden toothbrush lady was just a bit hilarious, so they somehow found their way into the video too.
Here it is:
